When Colorado State University expanded to create an urban campus adjacent to the National Western Complex, the school dedicated each building to an essential part of nature: land, water and animals. Denver artist Nikki Pike was commissioned to create a sculptural work for the “Backyard” of the Hydro Building, dedicated to the protection of water and water usage. Pike’s work, titled Crescendo, is composed of several concrete forms that mimic a wave. With water usage increasing and water supplies in parts of the world running dry, the work also references a tipping point, as we enter a time when water is becoming a limited resource.
Pike hired Third Dune Productions to create a short documentary to highlight Crescendo for the artist’s website, social media and future public artwork applications. Works such as this take years of planning and Third Dune was able to document the making of Crescendo from planning in Pike’s studio to fabrication in Gunnison, Colorado through to installation and final documentation in Denver, Colorado.
